Pony Pit Gameplay and Rules

I'll be bringing Pony Pit to our Meet again this year!  ^_^

I think most people coming know how to play it, but I will be doing a short demo anyway for those who haven't. If you want the details now, read on:

SHORT VERSION:

HOW TO WIN THE GAME: Be the first person with eight of the same-numbered cards in your hands, and declare it by yelling: "Pit!"

HOW TO GET EIGHT OF THE SAME: Trading cards with other people.

HOW TO TRADE: Once the "Pit is Open", you are free to trade with anyone you wish. You don't 'have' to trade with someone if you don't want to... this is a possible strategy move later on... it's not personal! ^_^ You select 1 to 3 SAME-VALUE cards from your hand (let's say you select 2 cards that say "5"). Take them and hold them FACEDOWN on the playing table. Call out the number of cards you are trading, thusly... "Two! TWO!! TWO!!!" (flailing optional! ^_^) Find another player calling out the same trading number (two). Trade your two cards for theirs... facedown. Voila! You now have new cards. (You might now have two cards that say "7")  Select a new set of same-value cards, or three, or just one... and begin trading again.

STRATEGY: The best strategy is to trade as quickly with as many different people as possible... this gives you the best liklihood of finding what card-values you are looking for. At least, that's MY strategy! ^_^

PENALTIES: There is really only one offense you will actually get punished for, and that is Mis-Pitting. (This rule ONLY applies in the TOURNAMENT version of this game, and we usually don't have time to play it.)  If you declare "PIT!", and it is discovered that you don't actually have all eight of the same-value cards, your game total will be DEDUCTED the card-value you were attempting to win the round with.

For example: Say you have seven "9" cards in your hands, and a "3". You trade away the single "3" card... (ONE!!! ONE!!! SOMEBODY... ONE!!!!!!)... and you get a "4", but you don't look closely enough and think it's a "9". You yell, "PIT!!!", we check your cards.... a Mis-Pit!! Whatever point total you have gotten so far is deducted nine points, since your hand is clearly full of "9" cards. Savvy?

It sounds complicated, but it's really quite intuitive in actual practice. And loads of fun!!! ^_^

If there is time for a Tournament game, I will further explain the rules at the meet... but we usually don't have time for it.

Any thoughts or further questions about this specific game, post them here!
